Who is the Workforce 2020 coalition comprised of?
Workforce 2020 is comprised of educators who teach, businesses who demand a skilled workforce, elected officials who create policy change, philanthropists who provide financial support, non-profit leaders who support students succeeding academically and their well-being and community members who believe that education for all is key to our community vitality.
What education system does Workforce 2020 support?
WF 2020 supports a holistic view of the system. Therefore, we acknowledge the importance of education and workforce readiness programs and organizations throughout our community that ensure a competitive workforce.
How will Workforce 2020 leverage organizations currently working on these same issues?
Workforce 2020 strives to leverage area organizations and opportunities by bringing them to a common venue where ideas and resources can be exchanged. Workforce 2020 will leverage specific programs/organizations that align with key focus areas. Additionally, we will work with organizations to create targeted initiatives where there is an identified and demonstrated need or opportunity.
What does the term ‘Workforce Development’ encompass?
Workforce development includes, but is not limited to, education and workforce readiness. Workforce readiness, as defined by the MN P-20 Partnership, includes the knowledge and skills that high school graduates need in order to do credit-bearing coursework at 2-4 year colleges/universities and to enter successfully on a career-track employment position (pays a living wage, provides benefits, offers clear pathways for advancement and continuous learning). Workforce readiness also encompasses employability skills such as effective teaming, agility, innovation/creativity and interpersonal communications.
How will your success be measured?
While the education aspect of workforce development covers the complete continuum from birth through "end of work", for efficiency, we will measure at select milestones. This does not minimize the importance of all stages of education.
